Oliver Wass becomes first harpist to enter finals of GSMD Gold Medal

The Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) has announced the three finalists of it's historic Gold Medal and, for the first time in its history, this includes a harpist. Masters student Oliver Wass (a student of Imogen Barford) competed with the cream of the school's students and has been selected as one of three finalists to perform on the Barbican stage with orchestra on 6th May 2016. Wass will perform the Ginastera concerto.

The Gold Medal contest is held biennially , and alternates prizes between instrumentalists and singers. Past laureates have included Bryn Terfel and Jaqueline du Pre--- it was most recently shared in 2015 by Mezzo Marta Fontanals-Simmons and soprano Jenny Witton.
