Cristobal Soto: Born in Paris, France, he lived in Venezuela from 1974 until 1996. He is a self taught musician, who followed his family's path in Venezuelan traditional music. Soto plays many instruments, but is an outstanding mandolin player and composer. He is a founding member of bands like "Los Anaucos" (1976-1979), "Cañón Contigo" (1980-1987), "Ensamble Gurrufio" (1985-1998) and "Recoveco" (1996-2004). He has collaborated with the Encyclopedia of Music in Venezuela, and has published many articles about Venezuelan music in France, Japan and Venezuela. Cuatro, harp and mandolin
The repertoire will include traditional Venezuelan music, as well as songs especially written for mandolin, harp and cuatro by Cristobal Soto. These three string instruments are very important in Venezuelan music. This will also be a perfect opportunity to play alongside Venezuelan colleagues who are based in London: Clara Rodriguez, piano player, and José "Chebeto" Requena, clarinet player. Every time we get together, we recreate the atmosphere of those musical gatherings we used to love back in Venezuela.
