We featured on the Events page a Harp Concert organised by 9-year old Emily Coulcher-Porter in aid of the Stroke Association and we heard recently that it raised a fabulous £510!      Emily, who performed 4 pieces on the harp, organised the event entirely on her own after her Godmother had a serious stroke and she felt that she wanted to do something to help.

    Well done Emily!

Happy New Year from us all at the UKHA, and we wish everyone the very best for 2017! Here is a lovely reminder of the 2016 UKHA Christmas party— our wonderful young harpists, who gave much pleasure to their enthusiastic audience. Thanks to Maryam Nazari for taking the photos!

We have received request from Natalia Shameyeva, who gave a wonderful recital at the RAM several years ago.  She sold her solo harp CDs in 'blue boxes' to people in London but it has since been discovered that the CDs don't always work on some equipment.  Now the great Russian artist has had them re-pressed and she wants to offer these instead.  She has asked that anybody who purchased the 'blue boxes', be in contact so they can swap the insides!!

Please, anybody who bought such a CD, feel free to contact Karen at MKVharpist@aol.com, and she will try to exchange them for you.

It has been brought to our attention that the charity Help Musicians UK has created a fantastic new scheme for hearing protection within the music profession. Membership to the scheme includes: the opportunity  to receive a hearing test and custom made earplugs ( ideal for use in the pit or orchestra) for £40 (or £30 for Musicians Union members) per annum.

Protecting your hearing is vital, and as such hearing protection can cost upwards of £150-£300, it is something we highly recommend you take advantage of. For more information, visit: https://www.helpmusicians.org.uk/working-retired-musicians/musicians-hearing-health-scheme/cost-and-joining

We thank Mary Reid and Karen Vaughan for bringing this to our notice.
